Different levels of government provide different services to Canadians. There are federal (Canada), provincial (New Brunswick), and municipal (Saint John) services that you will need to be aware of and access. Each level of government provides its own point of access (a physical building, a phone number, and a website) to help connect citizens with the help they need.

Municipal services
Municipalities are responsible for local services, including streets, water, sewage, parks, recreation, business permits, and property zoning. A non-elected staff administers these services. They generally include a city manager, a clerk, and a treasurer. They work in what is known as a city, town, or village hall. New Brunswick also has formal bodies known as rural communities. They are formed when two of what are called local service districts or one local service district and one village decide to join together.
