Childcare and Afterschool

Are you moving to the Saint John Region with children? Depending on their age, you’ll likely need to look into such things as school, camps, day care, and extracurricular activities for your kids.

The Saint John Region has an Anglophone and a Francophone school district, as well as Immersion programs to learn an official second language. There are two private schools in Saint John and three more in the Greater Saint John Area.

The City of Saint John is also home to the University of New Brunswick’s Saint John Campus, a Campus for Dalhousie University’s Medical School, and the New Brunswick Community College.

Day care is available if you require care for preschool-aged children during the day. There are also after-school and weekend programs. Be sure to register for these early, as demand is high, and wait lists are long.

There are many extracurricular programs available for kids, including music, sports, science, art, and more. For families who require additional financial support, P.R.O. Kids, a charitable program operated by the City of Saint John, pays the registration fees, equipment costs, and transportation costs related to organized, registered recreation.
