Pharmacies

Pharmacies are also called drug stores. In many other cultures they’re called chemists. They fill doctors’ prescriptions, and sell over-the-counter medicines that do not require a doctor’s prescription. They also carry general health and wellness supplies, such as first aid, personal hygiene, and beauty products.

There are several brands of drug stores in the Saint John Region. Some are standalone shops, while others are located within larger chain grocery stores. Search online to find the ones nearest you.

Prescriptions without a doctor visit

New Brunswick pharmacists can assess your symptoms and prescribe medication for a variety of health conditions—often referred to as minor ailments—with no service fee. It is always a good idea to check with your local pharmacist to find out if they offer these services since it is not mandatory that every pharmacist offer service for every minor ailment. Prescription drug costs

Prescription drug costs are not covered by Medicare, so patients have to pay out of pocket unless they have private health insurance. The New Brunswick Prescription Drug Program provides prescription drug benefits to eligible residents of New Brunswick, including Senior citizens, people with disabilities, and residents who meet certain income criteria.
