A new community campaign, Our Region, Our Home, launched on March 21 to recognize the positive impact of newcomers in the Saint John Region. Coordinated by Envision Saint John and the Saint John Local Immigration Partnership (SJLIP), the initiative aims to highlight diversity and build a more inclusive region.
The campaign features personal stories of immigrants from around the world—professionals, artists, volunteers, and families—who now call Saint John home. From a nurse from Tajikistan to a Mexican family balancing life and work, these stories reflect how newcomers contribute to the region’s growth and vibrancy.
“Our region’s success is tied to the strength of our diverse community,” said Andrew Beckett, CEO of Envision Saint John and SJLIP Co-Chair. “This campaign celebrates that.”
The launch took place during a Saint John Sea Dogs hockey game, where fans engaged with an information booth and met featured newcomers. Local organizations like the YMCA, PRUDE, and the Saint John Newcomer Centre were also present, sharing ways to get involved.
“This is about creating a sense of belonging,” said Kathryn Melvin, SJLIP Project Manager. “When we share stories, we build understanding and connection.”
The launch coincided with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, reinforcing the campaign’s message of unity and inclusion.
