Financial Assistance

As any parent knows, caring for children can get expensive. Besides the basics—food and clothing—the additional costs of child care, camps, and sports registrations can really add up. To help parents with these costs, there is federal and provincial government financial assistance available.

Canada Child Benefit

The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It is a tax-free monthly payment made to eligible families to help with the cost of raising children under 18 years of age. The CCB may include the child disability benefit and any related provincial and territorial programs.

New Brunswick Child Tax Benefit

The New Brunswick Child Tax Benefit (NBCTB) is a tax-free amount paid monthly to qualifying families with children under 18 years of age. The New Brunswick working income supplement (NBWIS) is an additional benefit paid to qualifying families with earned income who have children under 18 years of age. Benefits are combined with the CCB into a single monthly payment. You may be entitled to a basic benefit of $20.83 per month for each child. The amount of the basic benefit is reduced if your adjusted family net income is more than $20,000.

The NBWIS is an additional benefit of up to $20.83 per month for each family. It is phased in once family earned income is more than $3,750. The maximum benefit is reached when family earned income is $10,000. If your adjusted family net income is between $20,921 and $25,921, you may get part of the supplement. These amounts are combined with the CCB into a single monthly payment.

Day Care Assistance Program

The Day Care Assistance Program is designed to help your family have access to affordable, quality early learning and child care at an approved day care. If your family’s annual net income is $55,000 or less, you may qualify. If you do not have access to an approved early learning and childcare facility, you may be eligible for assistance under the Alternative Child Care Program.

There are certain conditions that will be considered when your application is reviewed. If you are working, attending school or a training program, undergoing medical treatments, or have received a referral from a recognized referral source for your child to attend an approved daycare, you may be eligible. You must call your regional Social Development office to confirm your eligibility.
