Daycare

Children under 12 years old are not permitted to stay home alone. So if you are working during the day and your child is too young for school, you may need to find day care for them. Unlike school, the costs of day care are not covered by the province, so you will have to pay fees for any day care service you register for. Be sure to register for day care as soon as you can, since they are in high demand, and often have long wait lists.

There are two types of day care services in Saint John Region:

  • Licensed child care services are registered with the provincial government
  • Unlicensed are home child care services offered by individuals
